Pinus Wood Identification Guide

Using micromorphological techniques to identify wood specimens from the genus Pinus to species level.

Welcome to Pinus Wood Identification Guide

The identification methods used on this site look at three types of section of wood for each species. These sections are as follows; transgential, transverse and radial sections. The most important characteristics used are cross field pitting and ray tracheid wall type, both seen in the radial section. Over 80 out of 120 species are included in this guide.
